Mercedes-Benz is planning on releasing a new generation of eSprinter big van.
The model hasn’t been fully disclosed yet, but a pre-production prototype lately completed a 295-mile trip on a single charge in Germany. This test was held in October and it was taken under the eyes of a TUV Sud representative.
The Mercedes-Benz eSprinter test
Mercedes recently completed a real-life range and efficiency run with the eSprinter cargo delivery van. It completed a 295-mile round trip from Stuttgart to Munich on a single charge, and a third party validated the efficiency of 21.9 kWh per 100 kilometers for the drive.
The test was run on Oct. 2022. It mimicked a real-life scenario and covered a combination of federal roads and motorways between the two cities, as would be covered by express delivery. To most closely mimic a cargo delivery situation, it chose an extra-long eSprinter with a high roof. When all was said and done, the van finished the 295-mile trip with about 12 miles of range left.
The Mercedes-Benz eSprinter Specifications
Mercedes hasn’t disclosed technical specifications, but it indicated that the long-wheelbase, high-roof eSprinter prototype recorded an average electricity consumption of 21.9 kilowatt-hours per 62 miles (100 kilometers).
It also pointed out that the van was fitted with the largest of the three battery packs that will be available at launch, and this is the unit that will be installed in eSprinter models created for the American market.
Also, these Mercedes-Benz eSprinters will get modularized electric drive systems, as part of a so-called Electric Versatility Platform, that enables them to be built alongside gasoline and diesel vans.
The new generation Mercedes-Benz eSprinter will be unveiled on February 2023, and this time, it will be sold in the United States.
Additionally, the eSprinter will be built in Charleston (South Carolina) as well as in Germany at the factories in Düsseldorf and Ludwigsfelde from the second half of 2023.
